“Every child is an artist; the problem is staying an artist when you grow up” – Pablo Picasso
Our story
Nurse by trade, artist by God’s design. Funny thing is I have always wanted to create art, but it took nearly 40 years to finally put brush to canvas. I discovered art later in life through homeschooling my two boys. We hadn’t done much in the way of creative arts during our homeschooling journey at the time, so I decided one day to put the books away and challenged each of us to paint a picture we had found on the internet. After we were finished came the big reveal. My boys and I were surprised to see just how much mine looked like the original artwork. That’s how this whole artistic journey began. After that day, I paint any chance I can get.
Even as a child, I’d always wanted to learn how to paint but never thought I could do it. I was always creating or making something just not with paint. God always reveals things to us when we’re ready or when it’s needed at that time. Years ago my time was needed elsewhere. Now, in this season of life, God has revealed this small talent He has given me and allowed me to develop it further.
I pray that as you look through my pieces you’ll see something that speaks to you and makes you smile.
So why did it start as “Brush & Nail”?
The “Brush” part is easy…I paint. But what about the “Nail” part? Well…
Every now and then my husband throws in a piece or two of his woodworking craftmanship. So now you can see where the “nail” comes in. And yes, he makes all the frames for any art piece that is framed (all my paintings can be framed…). All our pieces are created and crafted by hand right here in our own home.
Artworks by Kim - why the change?
Well as life gets busier and Brent has a “day job” the “nail” is becoming much less a part of what we do. The decision was made to make it reflect more of what it really is… my artwork. Now Brent still is involved (mostly framing of the art when needed) but 98% of all you see is from my brush (or palette knife…whichever I feel like using that day).
I truly love creating. God has given me this desire to create the things he has blessed me with in my life.
